As a newbie blogger I have faced a lot of problems at the beginning. One of them is "How to add Read More link" in my Blogspot blog. Those who have already used the wordpress for blogging know that their is a build in option in the wordpress post editor to add automatic Read More link in your post. But Blogspot still does not provides that facilities. So what you can do is to hack the HTML code of your template and then you can add a Read More link in your front page post. (Don't be afraid it's very easy. Just follow the instruction.)
1)Log in to your blogger account. Go to Setting--> Archiving.
Enable the Post page. Then click SAVE SETTINGS.
2)Next click Formatting. At the bottom of the screen there is an empty text area next to the Template Post any posts, fill text empty area with the code below:
<span class="fullpost">
</span>
That should look something like:
Then click save.
3) Go to Layout--> Edit HTML (Click Expand Template widget). Press Ctrl+F and search for the code- <data:post.body/>
Delete the above code and replace the code with the below-
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>
<style>.fullpost{display:inline;}</style>
<p><data:post.body/></p>
<b:else/>
<style>.fullpost{display:none;}</style>
<p<data:post.body/>
<a expr:href='data:post.url'><strong>Read more...</strong></a></p>
</b:if>
Save it. If you have followed the above steps properly then you wont see any error messages.
4)Now it's time for you to make some new posts.Go to Posting--> New post. Click edit HTML.You'll notice that your default post template now has <span class="fullpost"> and </span> tags. Look at the picture-
Put the part of the article you want to appear in front page above <span class="fullpost"> And write the entire rest of the article before </span>
Thats all.Publish or preview your new post to see your newly created "Read More..." works on your blog and then see whether or not the result of success. If not, there may be a part of missing. Try to see again the above step. Feel free to ask me if you have any problems regarding this tutorials.
